Yesterday wasn’t our last day on the island. Today will be. We enjoyed a fire last night as a neighbor moved in, a retired special needs teacher from New Jersey! We noticed that the breeze seemed to have picked up but when Stacy had to chase down the recycling tote and the neighbor knocked on our door returning a towel that had been left on a chair, it was clear that it was more than just a breeze! Our campsite was right out on the point with no protection and we felt the trailer shake several times from some pretty strong gusts. When we got up this morning it was hard to even open the door the wind was so strong. Once out we didn’t have to close the door behind us because the wind did it! Stacy pulled some info on her phone and found that gusts up to 25 to 30 mph were expected throughout the day until evening when they should drop to the low teens. Travel by RV towing was discouraged for inexperienced folks or rigs without weight distribution hitches. I am an experienced driver, above average abilities I would say, and I do have a weight distribution hitch, but there is no way I am going to haul this camper in these winds, especially across that causeway bridge! So we asked the KOA if we could possibly spend another night. They said sure, but not in the site we were in. Because it was waterfront someone else had booked it. So we would have to move to another spot. We did, one more toward the middle with other campers all around us and we are somewhat protected here. It’s still windy but at least I don’t need both arms to open the door! It will be interesting to see if the folks who booked our spot even show up. The folks at the KOA desk assured me that there are fools everywhere you go anymore and camping is no exception! We will give the dogs another day at the beach later. I’ll probably have to put a leash on Stacy so I don’t lose her to the wind. Enjoy the pics!
