We have been here a week and I have shared some observations with Stacy who for the most part agrees with some of what I say. First, there are no mustangs on Mustang Island. At least not the horse kind, and I didn’t see any. There were no geese on Goose Island either. And in spite of seeing multiple signs warning to not feed the alligators, nary a sighting. Apparently they were already well fed and napping somewhere else. The litter is still an issue everywhere we go. Took the dogs to North Beach to run today and yup, you guessed it, Stacy the cleaner is pulling crap out of the ocean. The beaches are almost deserted and yet it was a beautiful mid 60s sunny day. We enjoyed seeing a couple of dolphins swim by and I was fortunate enough to get a pic. We made a Sams Club and WalMart run after and while Ii waited in the truck with the dogs I made some observations just watching people go by. First, I am amazed at the number of pickup trucks here. And not the little half ton wimpy 2 wheel drive kind either. I’m talking massive, many lifted, three quarter and one ton four by fours that you can tell by looking at them that they’ve never been off the road. I would venture a guess that every fourth or fifth vehicle down here is a gas guzzling, diesel fuel burning behemouth. I’d be willing to place a bet that Texans have never even heard of Tesla, I watched one such monster pull into a parking space and expected some cowboy boot, 10 gallon hat muscle shirt to get out of it. Nope. She must have been at least 60, long hair pulled back in a ponytail wearing jeans and a plaid shirt. Must have borrowed the truck from her kid. Anyhow, their road signage here is atrocious causing many missed turns and the GPS “rerouting”. We get to where we want to eventually but not without some choice language. The drivers here ARE much more courteous than New York. I don’t see them running stop signs or red lights like back there. Even on the highway, although many of them don’t know what a signal is for, they maintain the speed limit for the most part. Considering that the limit is 75 in most areas you don’t have people passing you as much as in New York. So far I think that I have only cussed out one for cutting me off without using a signal even. We found what looks to be a nice local restaurant specializing in seafood and steak and plan on trying it tonight. Stacy has been cooking every night so she’ll get a break. Tomorrow morning we break camp and head for Galveston. It will be a 3 1/2 hour ride and we will be there until the 28th. Looking forward to seeing grandson Nathan, his wife Giselle and great granddaughter Emelia.
