We started the day with beignets and coffee at Cafe Du Monde. A perfect start. From there we wandered the shops along Decatur St and found some souvenirs before heading for Blacksmith Shop Bar on Bourbon St. for some liquid refreshment. Locals had recommended that we visit Frenchmen St as it appears to have overtaken Bourbon St as “the place to be”, much friendlier and safer, too. So we made the trek and were greatly unimpressed. True, we were there mid afternoon, not the evening when things “happen”, but it was a letdown nonetheless. After being on my feet all day I was all for finding the nearest eatery for supper and head back but Stacy had other ideas. A friend had highly recommended Deanie’s Seafood as the place to go. So, I sucked it up, we are only here once, and we walked I don’t know how many blocks, but we finally arrived. I ordered a double vodka tonic. Anyhow, the place is very nicely decorated and the staff very attentive. I was not impressed with their complimentary appetizers, potatoes boiled in the same water as their bbq shrimp. Way too peppery for my tastes. That aside, the appetizer that we ordered, bacon wrapped shrimp, and our meals were outstanding. I had the crab stuffed flounder with sweet potato fries (by far the best I have ever enjoyed, crispy and flavorful) and Stacy had the shrimp and catfish platter which she could not finish. Another double vodka tonic and my legs were feeling better for the walk back.
