The wind having abated significantly from yesterday, we were able to hook up and leave South Padre Island this morning. Staying an extra day really was not an inconvenience as we were able to take the dogs to the beach one last time and Stacy found a shop that had a T shirt which was exactly what she wanted so it all worked out in the end. So we arrived here in Rockport, about a half hour out of Corpus Christie, mid afternoon. There was another suspension style bridge to go over to get here that was really kind of neat. Our site here is also a lakeview site, not right on the water like the last one, but a nice view nonetheless. We had time to make a WalMart run for necessities and I find myself reminding Stacy that the camper does have weight limitations for towing purposes and although I have not kept track and weighed everything that we have put in it, I have to believe that we are close to if not over the limit. It has pulled just fine so far and I don’t want that to change because of canned goods in the pantry and a packed refrigerator. But I DO like to eat, especially her cooking, so I won’t berate the issue. We are here a week and I look forward to all kinds of things to do in Corpus Christie including touring the US Navy Carrier docked here. We saw it when coming over the bridge and it looks enormous. Check back later for the report! Oh, almost forgot, on the way here we had to go through a US Border Patrol checkpoint. All traffic on this highway had to stop and was subject to search. They had sniffing dogs too. When we rolled down the window the Officer asked if we were US citizens after I caught him checking our front license plate (from New York). I said, yes, we are citizens. Then he asked if there was anyone in the back seat, with Rosie plainly sticking her head into the front seat area, and I said “Just three dogs!” To which he replied “And are they US citizens, too?” I assured him that they are and he wished us a good day. Nice to see that they have a sense of humor even with their responsibilities.
