I suppose that if I had to, I could live here in the winter. Sunshine in the high 70s every day with a light breeze. That was just a little tongue in cheek if you didn’t pick up on it. I am amazed that this place is not more crowded. The KOA campground that we are in is very well kept and up to date yet there are many open spots. Most of the folks here are retirees but there are some younger people mixed in. The island is 28 miles long although the main road through it only goes out to about 14 and stops in the sand dunes. We drove it to the end today. Along the way we saw a trike, a 3 wheeled motorcycle basically, stuck in the sand alongside the road. Another truck had stopped to help but didn’t have a strap or chain to pull him out. So we stopped and I rummaged under the back seat where I store such things until I found something suitable. Hooked onto him and our 6.7 Powerstroke diesel didn’t even work to get him free again. They were very appreciative. I told him that was my mitzvah for the day and now he would have to pass it along. We reached the end of the road shortly after, parked and took the dogs over the dunes to the ocean. Rosie got the zoomies again and was chasing the birds up and down the beach. Again, not very many people here. Maybe a dozen cars all told in a two mile stretch. We were able to wade and the dogs learned that if they stood sideways at a certain point the next wave would come up and hit their side but not knock them over. It was fun to watch. The single major disappointment that we have with Texas is the litter and trash strewn about everywhere. We first noticed it in Arlington, I think, alongside all the roadways. Unfortunately, we found that the Island is not an exception. Several times we had to corral the dogs and get them away from trash and empty food containers left behind on the beach. Someone even left behind a flannel shirt! Wouldnt fit me and Stacy didn’t want it although she’ll steal my flannels when given the chance. Sorry, I digress. No dolphin sightings yet today although some kind of small duck visited this morning during coffee. We also got to see a hovercraft arrive and depart the campground. That was kind of neat to see. Looking for a place to eat out tonight and try the local fare. Until next time….
